The standard sizes for invitations are classic… they will never go out of style. But if you want to do something a little different, send an invitation that is larger than life, or small and precious. There is something intimate about a little card in the mail, it’s delicate and special nature piques the recipients interest. And an oversized card is just as fun… you’ll have more room to express yourself, maybe add some special text, or something symbolic about your wedding.
Letterpress is a great medium for this, too, because everything is customized, and the sky is the limit! You aren’t confined to any specific format. So go on and mix things up a little… your wedding guests will be excited to get such a unique invitation in the mail, and your wedding buzz will begin long before you say your vows.

Purple is the New Black!

I love color. Don’t get me wrong, there is nothing more elegant and sophisticated than a crisp beautiful design letterpressed in a deep rich black ink onto bright white paper. That is stunning! But sometimes you find a color so romantic and lovely it reminds you of the impressively simple swirl of a calla lily, the breathtaking beauty of a sunset on the beach, or sparkling fun of an amethyst bracelet. It’s both modern and traditional… It’s purple. My new favorite thing to do with wedding invitations is to use different shades of the same color. The invitation could be a deep purple, the rsvp... a little brighter and more vibrant, and the envelope could tie it all together with a shade somewhere in the middle. It's an unexpected twist that looks pretty, and works really well with the endless beautiful shades of purple.
Here is the design that started my recent love affair with purple. I think it is absolutely perfect for the upcoming fall / winter wedding season.

5 Fun Ways to Personalize Your Wedding Invitations
Most of the brides and grooms I work with want their wedding stationery to reflect them as a couple. Wedding Invitations are the very first thing your guests will see, and it will give them an idea of what to expect at the wedding. Here are some great ideas for customizing your invitation design that will have everyone talking!
1. Let the Location be the Star
Having a destination wedding? Getting married at the beach? Or in a small quiet garden? Capture the feeling of your wedding location by using elements in your wedding invitation. Anything from general icons like seahorses and palm trees, to very specific things... like the fountain you will stand in front as you say your vows.
2. Showcase Your Personal Interests
What kinds of things do you like to do as a couple? Do you wake up at 5 am to go surfing? Love to travel? Spend every weekend golfing? Use these as a springboard to create a visually interesting, and emotionally compelling wedding invitation suite. Print a scorecard for 18 holes on the back of your RSVP, and use a tee attached to string to wrap your invitation, envelopes, RSVP and directions card.
3. Make a Monogram
I love monograms. They symbolize the union of two individuals. Typography is endlessly pretty and classic, and your monogram should reflect your personal style. Are you modern, traditional, a little offbeat? For maximum impact, use your monogram on everything you can. From menus coasters and cocktail napkins, to place cards, programs, announcements, favor tags, thank you notes, save the dates, and anything else you are having printed. The more you use it, the more it becomes like your own personal logo.
4. It’s All About You
Look around your home. Find one (or more) things that you feel strongly about. Whether they are childhood relics, or the hottest new handbag, you love them for a reason. If you are having your invitations custom designed, the designer will be able to identify an element or two to use in the design, making your invitations especially meaningful. For a fun and interesting juxtaposition, you might have your fiancé do the same exercise, and incorporate your two elements together.
5. Let Your RSVP Work For You
It’s always fun to get your guests involved. Ask them what their favorite love song is, and then make a play list, or give a list to your DJ to play during dinner. List a few funny questions (or questions relevant to your wedding theme or location, etc), and then when you are making your seating arrangements, you can use this to help you put people next to each other who will have something in common.
